No Bummer January

January is kind of a bummer month. All the pretty lights and decorations from the holidays come down and the world suddenly looks blah and plain. The weather is usually cold and wet which doesn't do much to help those of us who get cabin fever during the month. And with no major gift-giving holidays during the month, there isn't much to look forward to.

So, let me present you with some ways to turn a not-so-fun month into a "No Bummer January."

1. Make-up your own holiday. Celebrate "Snowman Day" or "Chocolate Day" or just about anything that makes you smile, warms your heart or gives you reason to celebrate.

2. Make the most of your down time. Other seasons often inspire us to "go" places, but winter weather often inspires us to "stay." Snuggle with your loved-ones, read a book, start a fire in the fireplace, have a movie marathon or make a fancy dinner to eat at home.

3. Set goals and organize for the rest of the year. Use the quietness of the month to create a plan for the rest of the year. Update your calendar and address books, organize your gift closet and fill in with gifts you find on after Christmas sales and start planning your annual trips by looking online at hotels and attractions.

4. Clean your house. Though this is not a fun task, usually, the result can be very satisfying. Divide your clutter into piles labeled, "Keep," "Give-Away," and "Sell." Anything that doesn't fall into these categories should be thrown away.

5. Make personal connections with friends and make new ones. Take the time to write to those you didn't make contact with over the Christmas holiday and make an effort to be friendly during your daily activities. You might make some new friends.

Together.. we can make January fun! :)
